Generally,
Bullmastiffs have
wonderful
temperaments.
Bullmastiffs are
stubborn clowns by
nature. Bullmastiffs
temperament depend allot on
who owns them and how they
are raised. Of course some
puppies will have a stronger
personality than others.
Those pups should be owned
by someone who will be firm
with them from day 1.
Reputable breeders will try to match
up pups with the correct
owners. Pups need to
be socialized at an early
age. Getting them used to
people, noises, traffic,
other dogs and everyday life
situations lays down the
foundation for a stable part
of the family.
My dogs have been coming to
work with me since I got
them. Working in a vet
clinic gives me that option.
I am lucky. My dogs have
been around every noise,
person and animal
imaginable. You can do this
also by walking your
bullmastiff pup, or
bullmastiff dog in
areas where there are people.
Kids playing in parks are a
great place to start. Stand
at a shopping plaza. People,
places, and things are
what your pup needs to get
used to. Puppy training
classes are good for social
skills. Nothing is worse than a
130 lb scared dog trying to
get away from you, and when
a bullie wants to get away
from you he/she will.
Bullmastiffs don't bark
much. One of mine doesn't
bark at all. She makes a
grunting sound to let me
know something is up. It is
funny when she does it. My
male on the other hand will
sound off with the deepest
bark, that would scare
anyone. Remember they
are a guard breed.
Bullmastiffs love food. It
is the way to their soul.
Bullmastiffs are easy to
train. But if you go over
things to many times they
get bored. They just simply
walk away.
They can get into a lot of
mischief when the mood
arises.
Short walks a couple times a
day keeps them happy. Mine
get a lot of exercise
playing with each other in
the yard also.
A stable environment, food,
loving, and a couch are all
really a bully asks for.
A big Gentle Giant is what
they really are.
