German Shepherd Rearing

BallyRock German Shepherd pups are with the dam until at least 6 weeks. This helps build immunities through milk to the pups. At about 4 weeks soft food, actually mush can be introduced. No worries if they are not eating well at first they will catch on. Mom is still helping out also.

Between 4 and 6 weeks food is given with less and less water and moist dry is introduced to your BallyRock German Shepherd puppy.  We use Canidae dry for all life stages. Canidae has all a growing puppy needs, with NO FILLERS. This ensures your German Shepherd pup, or dog is getting the REAL nutrition it needs.  They can be fed Canidae all life stages their whole life. We do like to mix a little 0% fat plain yogurt in to. This is good enzymes for a healthy tummy.

Parasites and Vaccinations

All puppies have roundworms. Worming is completed at 2, 4, and 6 weeks of age. At 7 weeks, a fecal will be checked, and your pups 1st vaccinations at the vet will be completed. The Vet will check the heart, ears, teeth and body. Clean bill of health and all ready for new homes at 8 weeks.  When bringing a new German Shepherd puppy to your home, be sure to check that no existing parasites are in your home or property, as the puppy will be susceptible to these.  Most people are unaware that humans can bring and take parasites to other areas after being exposed to them.  Have your pets checked regularly at your local veterinarian clinic to ensure your German Shepherd puppy, dog stays healthy!

Your New German Shepherd Puppy!

For those fortunate to receive a BallyRock reg'd. German Shepherd puppy or dog ... Your pup will come with an information booklet on the GSD breed, suggestions, and recommendations. The pup will have a bath and nails clipped, ears squeaky clean. Your new German Shepherd puppy will also have a booklet which will contain the microchip number, registration number, copy of the German Shepherd puppy pedigree, a full color photograph, and health record from my vet. A sales receipt and a contract will also be included.  You will also have your German Shepherd puppy's new ROGZ collar and leash too! You should already have a vet in mind and you should introduce him/her to your new friend shortly after picking up. We will always be available for questions or concerns of your new friend.

Your German Shepherd Puppy's First Year!

What fun are you going to partake? We STRONGLY encourage you to continue on to our German Shepherd Training section when you complete this section. During the first couple of months your puppy will be getting used to toilet training, routines, what is acceptable and what is not, and the INEVITABLE ... let me see what this tastes like and can I eat it, or what any great German Shepherd puppy will do CHEW ... and we do mean chew on ANYTHING that is available 1 foot above the floor line of your house.  Puppy training class at the age of 12 - 16 weeks should be started.  The puppy should not be allowed to run up and down stairs, jump off decks, or a lot of rough play. These things can damage growing bones. Short walks on a leash will be sufficient. Puppies want to play and play is ok as long as it doesn't involve extensive running (more than a few minutes), jumping up and down on the hind legs, and excessive exposure to heat!  We recommend altering (spay/neuter) at the age of 8 months (before first season) for females and 14 - 16 months for males.
